Mission Statement.
“To ensure that the Gay community is enabled to fully participate in the social, economic, cultural, political and artistic life of the wider Cork and Kerry area. We operate within community development principles”
The main aims and Objectives are the relief of poverty in all it’s forms and the promotion of education and welfare including sexual health awareness among the gay community and mainstream society and to combat social exclusion on the grounds of sexual orientation.
The key points are:
- To raise awareness of and increase profile of gay community in the larger Cork and Kerry area.
- To provide a non-judgemental confidential service to our service users.
- To provide support both on a one to one basis and through support groups.
- To provide a comprehensive holistic health programme covering emotional, mental, physical and environmental health.
- To provide a help line offering non-judgemental, confidential information and support.
- To provide a safe environment for the articulation and sharing of views through social outlets such as the Other place drop-in centre and other locations throughout the southern health board region.
- To monitor social inclusion issues for the gay community and if necessary challenge equality/discrimination issues within the broader society.
- To provide support and information on Health and community, for members of the gay community and their famililies through a variety of structures such as discussion groups, support groups, and legal advice.
- To have an input in areas such as education, health, housing and employment on a regional and national level, by providing workshops to various groups within partnerships, Regional and national groups.
- To provide and support various artistic and cultural programmes for Gay community.
- To provide a liaison service with the dedicated Garda community officer as part of a strategy to combat levels of intimidation and violence against gay men.
